A fatality occurred on the Marine Parade beach at 6.15 this evening, jwhen a married.man, a tailor's cutter, named S; M. Clapham, went in to bathe. He was in the water liot more .than three minutes, when it was seen that he was incapacitated. An incoming ; wave brought the unconscious man ashore before his w ; ould-be rescuers had time to l reach > the surf. Restorative measures were applied immediately, and continued for four'hours with- the.aid of ambulance workers and two doctors without -consciousness: returning.; It is supposed that death was partly due -to heart failure, , Christehurch, January; 23.
