(Peb Pbess Association.) Auckland, January 16. . A telegram was received at the district police station this afternoon from Hokianga stating that a boy named Maxwell Carpenter, a son of a sawmill manager, fell off an oil launch at Bawene last night. A single man named John Cochrane jumped in to attempt his rescue, and both were drowned. New Plymouth, January 16. ; Miss Turnbull, aged 21 years, a daughter of the late Andrew Turnbull, stipendiary magistrate, went visiting on Thursday, and wandered away. She was found on Saturday evening in a swampy portion of a paddock on the Smart road, three and a-half miles from New Plymouth. It was very wet, and as the result' of exposure on two bitterly cold nights she died after midnight on Sunday from pneumonia.- No inquest is considered necessary. Te Kuiti, January 16. Harold Welch, a hotel porter, aged 22 years, while riding a horse yesterday, turned to shut the paddock gate. David King, a companion, rode on, and on returning found Welch lying at the gate suffering from concussion of the brain. He is still unconscious, and was taken bv the express to the Waikato Hospital this morning.

Invercargill, January 16. Grace Maud Shirley, 16 years of age, fell from a horse at Magara on Friday ufternoon, sustaining a hroken leg, and died at the Southland Hospital on Sunday night.

Wanganui, January 16. A drowning accident is reported to have occurred four miles above Pipiriki last week, a man named Granfield, employed on the steamer trading above Pipiriki, having fallen overboard. The body has not been found. Deceased came from Onehunga.

Timaru, January 16. John Albert, an elderly man, - a travelling saddler, was found dead on the road near Pleasant Point yesterday. The police report that tiiere are no marks of violence.
