DTINEDIN REPORT.

Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., , report as heldr our . usual weekly auction' sale of grain at our stores on Monday, the 16th instant There was an average attendance of buyers, but bidding was not animated. However, wc succeeded- in selling the' bulk of our catalogue privately' and at auction as under:—

Oats.—The market is easier. Owug to the new season's, oats now being,on ofi'cr in Canterbury and the slack demand prices have, receded id a' btrmel. Even at the present prices vthero ;s very little doing, and any, oats : bei--. » sold here arc practically for, the lr-.-ja! trade. Cohipanv renort as follows on December 9:— ) Mot /.o r i!S a ' Ti V i,s "f rabbits have 'icon (>3,o.)lcwts from Australia. 12,439 owls from New Zealand and 8723cwts iron, the Continent, a total some 50 000 o.vrs less than came to hand in the previous four weeks. Aggregate img""?'10"8 amount to C3o,B92cwts, or more than were received in tiie same period of last vear. There has been a considerable in crease in the importations of frozen pork, the total ouantitv received during 1910 to date being 48,426c.vt5, compared with 6G46cirts in the same n-ribd of 1909. Of this year's total, in.ivc.er,: only lSSieivts were received irom Australia and BG72cwts from Neiv Zealand. In the frozen meat market more attention is being devoted to dealings in new season's shipments than 10 spot transactions, and the trade as a whole is very quiet, particularlv in the provinces.

New Zealand Mutton.—Oi.lv 1!>.0l0 carcases have come to hand in'the four the year's receipts amou-it to 1,9/4.222- carcases and show an increase of 12-5,097 carcases on-last year's figures.. Stocks are;extfem'e)yv ; mode-, rats, and, being under no'pres-siue ;to increase the limited output, iiiipori.eis have maintained quotations fairly firmly. At the close, values ho :c a crumbling tendency, which is scairrdv surprising, seeing that the quotations for Plate mutton have been consistently about 3d per lb lower than those for North Islands for the past four or live weeks. The latter are still quired at 3|d to 4d per lb; with a we \k tone. Canterbury cover a fairly wide, range. Good light carcases, ivlnSli. arc Kcaice, are worth 4id per- lb, -b.it some very heavy weights can be boiiir>+. at 3j : d rer lb. Ewes are worth abo-it 3gd per lb. The arrivals before the end :.f the j ear will be .very light, but v. ill probably L& sufficient for the denu-ul. Nei\- Zealand Lamb.—Stocks arc exhausted and quotations cannot be given. The year's receipts amount to . 3,41o;00l! carcases, showing an increase of 263,234 carcases. Extremely few of the new season's lambs, can arrive before the* end of the year. ..

Frozen Beef.—Recent supplies coihprise;93Bs quarters from New Zealand, 32,570 quarters from Australia, .and 79 ? 575\quarters- from South America, the latter including : further consignments, of 3555- quarters from .Venezuela. The- increased . exports from New Zealand and Australia «outweigh the decrease from South America, and the net balance is . an' increase of--148,623 quarters. Considering the low value fif chilled beef, the quotations for frozen have been weJI maintained, but latterly sales have been very hard to make. Values show a 1 slight decline on those riding a month ago, and probably further reductions would 'have to b:» made to induce a. freer sale. New Zealand and Argentine hinds \ire ; quoted at 3Jd to 31d per'lb andi fores at 2Ad to 23d per lb. .Australian "heef does not make more- than the lower of these figures. The Venezuelan beef arrived in excellent but is realising much lower.prices than Australian.,
