AMBULANCE BRIGADE.

The annual meeting of the Oamaru Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade was held in Toes Street Hall last night, Mr Hugh Thomas presiding over a fair attendance. During the year the attendance of members at the monthly; meetings has not been quite satisfactory, and your Committee, would urge ; all the members to attend . more regularly and also to attend the As-sociation-,lectures. The meetings held during; the year have kept the members familiar with their work, and all those who presented themselves. for the an-re-examination were passed by Dr. Orbell. During the -year some of. the members instructed the Boy Scouts in first aid, and also by lantern views showed them the different parts of the body, etc. Our financial position is still strong. We have on hand: Cash, £459 13s 4d; property, to the value of. £179 10s; total, £639 3s 4d, which is very satisfactory. During the year the Brigade lost, by the death of Mrs Garland, the wife of our lion, surgeon, ( the services of a lady who at all times has taken a most active and energetic interest in ambulance work, and has shown her constant and practical sympathy with us in all our efforts. The Committee would extend to Dr. Garland and family their sincere condolance with him- in his bereavement. Your Committee desire to thank Mr Hay for auditing' the books and bal-ance-sheet of the Brigade. Special thanks are due to all those who so kindly gave donations towards the funds of,the Brigade, and to Dr. Garland and Superintendent H. Thomas for the time they havo given and the trouble they have taken in the work and management of the Division. The report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. Officers wore elected as follows: Hon. surgeon, Dr. Garland; superintendent, Mr Hugh Thomas; first officer, Mr H. Grenfell; secretary and treasurer, Mr M'Phail; sergeant, Mr B. de Lambert; corporal, Mr J M'Nab; inspector of stores, Mr Rusbatch; committee, Messrs Strachan, Vine, and Tressider. Votes of thanks- were accorded. Mr Hay for auditing the books and the balance-sheet, the Press, and the Chairman.
