SOCIAL AT ENFIELD.

A social, evening in, connection with the EnJicld Presbyterian Church was .heldJin:the.Public Hall last-night, and there, .was a crowded .meeting. , Iho Kev.'Mr Staudr'ing presided, and opened the "meeting with, the lUOth Psalm. .During the evening, there were very helpful addresses given by the Rev. Mr Steven and: the. Rev. Mr-Rennie. ; Th<s ladies of the Congregation Jhad /been ■verv. busy .in providing a.;,large, supply of eatables,: and- the way plateful after plateful disappeared showed' h'qw their efforts.'in' that .direction, were appreciated. A very, good musical programme was also prepared, anil from the. hearty manner in which the items .were received -showed "that ./the meeting, was having a good time, and the. hum oi conversation , during the intervals between the items showed that that.side of tlic evening was receiving its share of attention. "The. following items were given during the evening.:—Mr Calder, "Let Me Die on the Deep" and "Good Company"; Mrs Cariaichael, "The Song of the Emigrant" (encored),; Mr Slater, "The Owl Critic"; JUiss Taylor, "The Flowers, of the Forest" (encored); Mr Bailey. "Three for Jack" (encored) and "The Deathless Army" (encored); recitation, Mr. G. Cowan; Mrs Carmichacl, "Tlic Highkuidman's Toast" (encored). A most enjoyable evening was brought to a close with a very hearty vote 01 thanks -to the ladies,- the visiting speakers, -and the performers. Alter the Doxology and the Benediction the people made for home, one and all expressing their appreciation of the evening's entertainment and expressing the hope that the function will be an annual one.
