PRESENTATION TO THE HON. G. FOWLDS.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington. Sajttember 15. Mr Fowlds, who is leiWjig Wellington to-day en route to South Africato represent the Dominion at tile opening of the Union Parliament, was entertained at Bellamy's to-night, and presented, with a silver loving-cup by members of Parliament-. Sir Joseph Wards, who presided, in. proposing Air Fowlds' health, alluded ed to the fact that the day was the fiftieth anniversary of-Air Fowlds' birthday. He hoped he would be spared many happy years, and wished him Godspeed in his important mission from every point of view. So far as the Dominion was concerned it was a good thing to be represented. Air Fowlds was particularly fitted for the mission, having himself been some years a resident of South Africa.' He asked Air Fowlds to convey to the people of South Africa the good wishes of the people of New Zealand, who expressed hopes that they would steer clear of all troubles, in the-future. ATr Alassey added a few congratulatory remarks in a similar strain.' The speakers considered the visit of Air Fowlds would be productive of much good. Air Fowlds, in response, said he appreciated very much the warm words of appreciation, and thanked his colleagues for the honor done him. The action of the Imperial Parliament in granting a constitution to South Africa has been justified,, and it would be v. great pleasure to him to convey to the people of South Africa —Dutch as well as British—the greetings of the people of New Zealand.
