KAPUA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) It is with regret that I chronicle a distressing accident which befel Mr Felix O'Donnell last week wliile he was proceeding homeward. Mr O'Donnell's horse was in somewhat frisky spirits, and after journeying some nine miles beyond Waihao Forks it suddenly bolted, and the occupant was precipitated out of tlie trap. Mr O'Donnell sustained such severe injuries about the liead that it was found necessary to remove him to a Waimate private hospital, and we are pleased to learn that he is progressing satisfactorily. Mr Studholme has disposed of his Gleiilogan Estate at Waihao Forks to Mr Trott, of Springbank, Rolleston, and Mr H. Pilbrow, who has been manager of the estate for a number of years past, will thus sever his connection with his maliy friends here. Mr Pilbrow during his residence amongst us has taken a keen interest in the intelligent activities of the place. As amember of the Kapua School Committee lie will be greatly missed, for he has always been a prime mover in scholastic affairs. Mr Pilbrow will carry away with him the best wishes of the district's residents for the future welfare. Influenza and colds arc very rife in Kapua just now, and this epidemic of illness is no doubt due to the rapid change in the weather. Mr Cam. Wall has entered his re- i nowned racehorse, Stone Ginger, . for a steeplechaise and hurdle race to be run at the Christcliurch Grand National meeting on August 9th. Stone Ginger has recently secured many leading prizes at the Waimate, Timaru, and Oamaru races, and we are therefore anxiously expecting Stone Ginger to secure" a big win at Christcliurch.
