Younger inquired as to the desirability of" fortifying the Gulf of Paria (in view of the discoveries of petroleum) and Trinidad, owing to the importance of the island after the Panama Canal was completed. Colonel Seely replied that the matter was receiving consideration.
The House deleted tiie religious clause from the Census Bill. The Civil List Bill was reported without amendment. In the House of Lords, the Rogoncy Bill was read a second time, also a Bill facilitating the creation of bishoprics and amending the Bishops Resignation Act.
