THE ACCESSION OATH.

[By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.] (Per Press Association.) Received July 25, at 0.20 a.m. London, July 23. There was a lively debate on the Regency Bill over Sir S..J. Cory's■ amendment to include the declaration among the oaths taken by the Regent. It was argued that it was more important that the Regent should make the declaration than the young Sovereign.

Mr Churchill deprecated thrusting crudely and bluntly into the Regency Bijl a declaration which the House recently decided by an enormous majority it was undesirable that any Sovereign should make at the present time. The amendment was rejected by 123 to 25, and the Bill was read a third time.

Received July 25, at 9.20 a.m. Sydney, July 25. Cardinal Moran, discussing the Coronation oath, intimated that the Catholics' loyalty to the throne was independent of any oath the King may be obliged to take. The declaration was not only offensive to the Catholics, but it implied a far-reaching insult to the Sovereign. It assumed him to be a, possible liar, as it made him declare that he had not received the Pope's dispensation.
