July 22. ■) At the last meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Boxing Association, the secretary of.the Manawatu Association wrote stating that July 27tii and 28th had been selected as the dates for the New Zealand championships, July 2.9 th being available if three evenings were required;'that Mr I. Fake would act as referee; that Dr Napier M'Loan, of Wellington, had been asked to act as one of the judges, and that the council should nominate the other judge. The council secretary reported that he had informed the secretary cf the Manawatu Association that Mr H. Sharplin, of Ashburton, would be a suitable judge, and had recommended his appointment.

The secretary of the Manawatu Association in subsequent correspondene--; asked if it were permissible for a person to enter himself for the New Zealand championship : if there was a residential time limit in connection with the championships, and if competitors chosen to represent an association in a championship could refuse to do so.and yet be nominated by an association in an adjoining district.

The council secretary reported that he had stated tir.'.t a person could not enter himself for a championhsip, entries having to be made by the secretaries of locil associations; that there was no residential time limit in connection with the New Zealand championships, and that a competition must represent the association controlling the sport in the district in which nc .resided. The action of the council secretary was approved, and it was decided to bring the matter of a residential time, limit before the conference cf local associations. C. F. rferbert, Oamaru, wrote objecting to Pit-ton and Mitchell being matched for the heavyweight championship. He considered that, having boxed a draw with ricton and being prepared to meet Pictoh again, lie should have been given an opportunity to box for the title. In bis opinion, he should have received first consideration. . ,

The council agreed that as neither Picton nor Herbert had a clear claim to the title, it was .simply a matter of selection by a promoting body. The Millerton Association hod selected Pieton, and Herbert's proper course was to challenge the winner of the contest between picton and Mitchell. The Otago Association wrote recoilmending the disqualification for life of a person-'who had been convicted of a grievous assault. The recommendation was agreed to.
