A DISTRAUGHT CAPTAIN.

(Pep. Press Association.) New Plymouth, July 22. Since the arrival of the German barque Vignnella from Liverpool there has been considerable trouble with the men, four of whom deserted. At the Magistrate's Court to-day an able seaman and two . apprentices were sentenced to three weeks in gaol for disobedience of the officers' commands while in port. All expressed a desire for longer terms, so as to escape returning to the vessel. In order to keep the two youthful prisoners from the elder, who was- stated to be the ringleader, his sentence was made imprisonment only, and the other two hard labor. The able seaman, before being removed from prison, threatened the captain, saying "I'll knock .your eyes out when I come out."
