AXXUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Phncnix Bowling Club was held in the bowli.ou.se last night, when there was a large ' ■-■-;! thcn'ng of members. Mr AA'. H.

i'atersou was in the chair. -Apologies iij.' absence were received from Messrs !)ii;:can and S. G. Reid, and Mr Herioii apologised for Mr Concher. The st cr.jtary (Mr H. F. Gibson) was deterred by illness from being present, but the President- stated that Mr Gibson wished to resign his position this year owing to pressure of ether business. The annual report was read as follows:

"your Committee in presenting its annual report has pleasure- in stating that on the whole the past season lias been a successful one.

"When the old pavilion was destroyed by fire steps were immediately taken to devise means for replacing it with a more tip-to-to-date structure and one which would be an ornament to the town. AVe have now, thanks to the exertions of members and friends, a building with all conveniences, cl' which we may well feel proud. AA r c would here mention the generous assistance given by the Meadowbank Club and their lady friends, and we extend to them our best thanks, as also to our own members, who were mo;t prominent in working for the ba::aar. The success of the bazaar was never in doubt; at the same time the net result far exceeded the most san"■u'ne hopes of the majority. After refunding the Club £IOO lent to them, the Bazaar Committee handed over £596 los Id to the building fund. "The cost of the new building amounted to £559. On 17th November the new pavilion and greens were formally cpened Invitations were sent to the various centres in Otago and Canterbur.y requesting the presence of as manv howlers as could make it convenient'to attend- Quite a large number of visitors put in an appearance, and sides wore nicked. The opening mr-.tch was President v. A 7 ice-President. After a most pleasant game victory lay with the A"icc-President by 17 points. "Mr J. Gallaway, President of the N.Z. Under his treatment the new green has been transformed into a very fair one, and we have c-vcrv confidence m his ability to put it in first-class condition. , "Both o-reens have been top-aressed s.'iic-- the'close of the season. This is a r."v; denarture. and the Committee believe a "step in the right direction, a<; it <>ives the mound a chance to settle and the seed an opportunity to '■• row. It will be noticed from the bal-npc»-slieot that the cost of top-dressing is abnormally high this year, but it n-av be explained that this is caused bv'the greens having been top-crossed tv.ice during the financial year, at the banning and the ond of the season. This, will not occ.-.r again. "Our extraordinary expenditure war.: Ft"- V> new sorts £9, scoring bor.ras £G" 18s. rubber rr.r.ts £S, furniture £•>! In moving the ado;.;ion or the report ■mil balance-sheet, the Chairman drew attention to the small difference between the total of subscriptions and the expenditure in wages, etc. The revenue was reallv insufficient for the upkeep of the two irreens. Both greens had been top-dressed, whirl) ran av.-ny with..some of their money, and also the seats had been repaired. ' The caretaker had now in hand'the replacement of the kerbing round -the green, and he thought they should soon lay down an asphalt path. The motion for the adoption of the report and balance-sheet was seconded by Mr S. Fatersou, and carried unanimously. The Chairman stated, that at tire request of a number of members_ a meeting was called to form a- social club. The. secretary was not present, and, after forming a committee to look after the social part of the club work, they found that they had not had a full, fjiiorum. .so that the. business was informal.
