RAILWAYS AND COLLIERIES SUSPENDED.

A four hours' interview between che North-Eastern Company's officials and the representatives of the men proved abortive, 25,000 employees are affected, and thousands of colliers will be rendered idle.
Received July 21, at 9.5 p.m. London, July 21. The directors of the Company replied that as they have appealed to die Arbitration Court they must abide by its section. One hundred and twenty thousand men are affected. The amalgamated railway men at Darlington and Bishop Auckland have also struck.
The North-Eastern railway men are agitating for the abolition of the Conciliation Board. Mr William Allen, leader of the Tees Side men. declares that the latter complain of the tyrannical attitude of the officia's in every department, who are reducing expenses to the detriment of the workers. It is stated from other sources that the men object to speeding up and the appointment of additional minor officials to keep them up to the mark. The Company yesterday ofi'erod to receive a deputation to consider the grievances if work is resumed, but the men declined unless a head shunter was reinstated. Mr Sydney Buxton lias gone to Newcastle to exert his influence. All grades at Carlisle have decided to strike, thus breaking the connection between the East and West.
DISLOCATION IN CANADA. Ottawa, July 21. The strike on the Grand Trunk is causing great hardship. Cattle arc starving and cartloads of perishable food rotting. A shortage of meat and milk is feared in Montreal and elsewhere.
STRIKE IN AMERICA. Now York, July 21
The Amalgamated Railwaynicn's Society of New York has decided to strike unless the dispute is settled this afternoon.

The secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railwaymon declares that the strike is not recognised hecause it is illegal.
DISCONTENT IN AUSTRALIA
Received July 21, at 9.5 p.m. Brisbane, July 21
The strike in the gas works has ended. The men accepted the company's offer to find outside work for the strikers. __ , Perth. July 21.
The tramway employees have ceased work as a protest against the arbitration award. They demand the advanced rate fixed by the Arbitration Court. No trains are running, as the strike at. the Cardiff coal mine still continues. Received July 22, at 1 p.m.
