OTEPOPO NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) During tlie past week the frost has been exceptionally keen. Oil Saturday, however; a "southerly" set in and brought with it the usual cold showers. The ground is now thoroughly soaked, and in a few days should be in a very workable condition. The severity of the weather and the scarcity of food are now beginning to make themselves apparent on the stock, the cattle especially making considerable inroads on the straw stacks. On Thursday night the Athenreuin Committee held a special meeting to deal with a notice of motion given by Mr Fleming, to the effect "that the existing scale' of charges for rental of hall, etc., be revised." Mr 1). Morrison, Chairman of the Hall Committee, presided over a full attendance of members. The items were brought up seriatim, and after much discussion each was amended, altered, or approved by the Committee. A motion was then carried that the new scale be now adopted and take effect at once. In making the new scale, the Committee was forced to consider its financial position in conjunction with the interests of the public generally, and the resultant charges are a slight advance on those previously in force. ; For some weeks an enterprising syndicate 1 lias been running a skating rink in the hall. The venture lias been so well patronised that the mangement are now opening on two nights per week, and have reduced the charge. "Grave and gay" alike seem to find pleasure in swiftly whirling round the hall or doing "Tibetan" pennance.
