M'Alister, Guioco Piano. The game proceeded evenly till towards the close of play, when I\l:r Gow set up a strong attack, which will require some watching. Board 8. —Messrs H. Faniilton and A. Burford, Algair-Therold'- Gambit. As usual, with this opening attacks and counters were prominent, the local man emerging with two pawns to the good. -Board 9. —Messrs J. E. Broad and A. Beck, Philidor's Defence. At present cveu, but resumption of play should see quick exchanges. Board 10. —Messrs W. W. Beswick and B. Hayes, Ruy Lopez.
