Christchurch, June • 22. A curious case engaged the attention of the Lyttelton Court to-day. The !i censee of a hotel, who also owns a steam trawler, was charged with having paid wages to the master, mate, and two hands of the trawler on licensed premises.. For the defence it was contended that the provision in the Licensing Act was intended to ■ apply to manual laborers, and on this ground the informations in respect to the master and mate were dismissed.
