Wellington, May 9. Ten minutes after 1 o'clock this morning a fire was discovered* in. a wooden building of two storeys in "Upper Cuba street, belonging to Mr Coverdale, and occupied by Messrs J. Meelian (chemist), Perry (Oculist), and Nurse Smith. The building was. destroyed, together with its contents. The occupants had a narrow escape. Nurse Smitli had to 15c handed through a top storey window by Mr. Meehan, whose face was badly burned. He was also cut about the hands. The building was insured, in the Sun Office for £BOO. Messrs Median and Perry had a .joint cover from the Guardian and United for £4.70. Nurse Smioh was not insured.
