MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Befoie Mr T Hutchison, S.M ) ADULTERATED MILK. A milk vendoi, of Ardgowah, was charged with <i bieach of the Sale of Food and Dings Act, 1908, in rhat she sold to one R J. M'Kenzie a sample of milk containing 16.35' per cent, of w iter m excess of the percentage allow - able in the milk.
Sergt. Stagpoole, - who prosecuted,; stated that Inspector" M.'Benzie took samples from a number of milk-veridpM, including defendant. On analysis at Wellington defendant's sample was fo.'nd to contain the percentage of water stated. Defendant supplied milk bath 16 the factory and to retail tomersDefendant, who pleaded guilty to the 1 charge, stated in excuse that on' the day in which the sample of milk was. taken she.had been using the milk-cans for carrying water. The only explanation she could give o£ the presence of the water was that some had remr.ined at the bottom of the can, not having been properlv drained off. His* ' Worship remarked that unfortunately the want of intention did not constitute a defence unless all necessary precautions to prevent adulteration had been taken. On defendant promising to take all care in future, however, he imposed a conviction with no penalty. OTHER CASES. One first offender for drunkenness, failing to put in an appearance, was convicted and fined os. A prohibition order was issued against a resident of Duntrooh.
