She struck a reef in the .Red Sea near Farsaw Islands. Sixty boats, with about 800 Bedouin pirates, surrounded her, and opened fire, which the crew returned. When, the steamer's ammunition was exhausted the crew escaped in an Arab dhow, which stood by, and evenually brought assistance. Meanwhile the pirates stripped the vessel and got safely away. The Kilburu was eventually towed to Perim and repaired.
