OTEKAIKE SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Otekaike Sunday Schol picnic was- held on Wednesday, March 23rd, the anniversary of the province, on grounds kindly' lent for the occasion by Mr Benstead. The grounds were very suitable for such a gathering, the surroundings make quite a, picture with tlie beautiful trees and the stately poplars, which gave shelter and shade from the hot noonday sun. The day was simply an ideal one for the children, who had a glorious time from start to finish with games of all kinds'. The bovs enjoyed themselves with football, while the gentlemen took a keen interest in a game of cricket, •some of them making a hard day's work of it. After plentiful refreshments had been produced from the' baskets which the ever-willing ladies had provided, all sat down to lunch. The lunch was excellently prepared, and reflected great credit on the ladies, who are now becoming well known for their ability to make such" provision. After the lunch the Rev. Mr Perkins had to .perform a very pleasant duty of making a presentation to Miss Eason in consideration of the untiring service which she has given to the Sunday School and the devoted interest she has taken in it. Before making the presentation Mr Perkins gave the children a few words of good advice and impressed on them the benefit of attending Sunday school. He then handed to Miss: Eason a beautiful silverbacked brush, comb, and mirror, with her initials, two initial hatpins, a silver trinket box,, also a box containing a silver shoe horn and button hooks, and a prayer book. He said that the presentation was made because of the high esteem in which the people held Miss Eason. Miss Eason suitably returned thanks to all for their kindness. A vote of thanks was then accorded, to Mrs Munro and Mr H-f G. Ellis for tickets and hymn books for the Sunday school. Mr Benstead could not let .the people go away without expressing his opinion of the day's enjoyment, and hoped to see them back again on some future occasion. Three cheers were given for Mr Benstead for the use of his grounds.
