|By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.] (Per Press Association.) Received March 30, at 9.15 a.m. Sydney, March 30. Private cables from Fiji show that the fears as to the extent of the damage caused by the hurricane are "unfounded, and the damage is chiefly .confined to Suva and its vicinity. Levuka, Balutoka, and Taviuni escaped damage, but it will be a few days before the effect on any of the outlying islands is known. A hurricane raged at Noumea on Sunday, causing great damage. Houses were unroofed, telegraph lines blown down, and roads washed away by the high seas. The German gunboat Cormorant lost several boats in the gale.
