Bates' summary ana forecast: Fair weather has been experienced in most parts of the South Island, hut a cvclonic disturbance, centred at present a little northward of Cape Maria, has evinced its influence over the north in gloomy and showery weather. The present indications are for a further fall in the barometer, especially in the north, where an easterly gale, heavy rain and floods in (■•art-* inav be expected. South-easterly winds, strong to a gale : with rain probably elsewhere. The barometer will ::-.■ fast after 24 hours. STORM OX THE EAST COAST. (Per Press Association.) Gisborne. March 30. The storm forecasted by the -Government Meteorologist duly -arrived, and :i stron"- easterly gale is raging with heavy rain. At 9 o'clock this morning :\ S9ins of rain had been recorded for the previous 24 hours, making a total t..i 48 hours of 6.69in5.
DAMAGE IN NEW PLYMOUTH. Pep. Press Association. New Plymouth, March 30. The oil derricks at Motuna aro believed to have suffered severely. This was the severest blow experienced for many years.
