The first test took place this evening. The weather was tine, and there was a very large number of people gathered in the beautiful grounds of the Jockey Club.
The B grade bands, of which there were 10, played first, their test piece being "Bells of Brittany." The Nelson Band topped tlio list. Result': Points. '
The first grade contest between the Wanganui Garrison and Petone proved a very easy thing for the champions, who, in the language of the judge, put up a very fine performance, while Petone came in for rather unfavorable criticism. The test piece was ''Liszt."
