Hogan. . . After presenting: the . prizes Monsignor Mackay addressed the pupils, and, after wishing them a happy holiday, dismissed them for the vacation. WINDSOR SCHOOL, The annual distribution of prizes and picnic of the Windsor School took place at .Mr S..G. Reid'-s property- oii Friday, 17th. The children .mustered in force, and a large gathering of parents and friends were also, present. The arrangements made by the School Committee provided for every, detail, hence the day's enjoyment was in every way complete. Mr S. 6i Reid's energy and solicitude for everybody's comfort contributed in ho small measure to the success of the picnic. The sports were under the supervision ( f Messrs Watson'< Elliott, Flynn, Preen, and others, while the onerous duties of handicapper were in tlie hands of the head master, Mr Duggan. The mc-al> were served by a number of ladies, amongst whom were Mesdames Livingstone, Watson, Oliver, Miss Paul, and a large number of assistants!, including many gentlemen. As the merits of the individual competitors . were previously known, to the handicapper the various competitions were very keendead heats being of frerjueht .occur? rence. The wrestling aiid leaping provided exciting contests. At the close of the sports programme the school awards were made by Mr S. G. Reid. In his remarks liti complimented the teachers upoil the completion of another . year of successful work, and congratulated the children upon, the success achieved by them .at the annual examination. At the. conclusion of the prize-giving Mr Duggan, on behalf of Miss Paul and himself, thanked Mr Reid for his. goodness in placing his grounds (it the disposal of the children during the day, and also for the large share of., the . day's . pleasure .which his kindness and courtesy had contributed. Mr .Duggan also thanked the donors of, .special prizes, amongst whom he specially referred, to Mr C. W. Reid, who had as heretofore donated a beautiful, gold medal for' t.h<s dux of the school. Special mention was also made of the generosity of Mr Livingstone (who was unavoidably absent), Mr S. G. Reid, Mr Frascr, and Mesdames Livingstone,. Watson, and Don, who had each donated . special prizes. He also thanked .Messrs Watson and Taylor, who had each supplied a tin of 'lollies for the picnic. —Prize-List. — Standard VII.—S. Owens.

WESTON SCHOOL. . The breaking-dp, of,, this school took place, on Friday, 17, th inst. The hall was filled to the d.oor by . parents and friends, who eii joyed, .the, various ; items rendered by the children, consisting .of songs, recitations, pianpfoi:,te solos, and duets, : physical exercises,, etc.,.. concluding with Mark Twain's "Painting of the Fence." At the close of the prize-giving Mr Kelly said he had a, pleasing duty to perform, in presenting the Rev. Mr Roseveare .with a Christmas box from the children. As the people were aware, Mr Rosevcarc had for the past three years visited the school every Wednesday morning, from 9 to 9.30 for the purpose of. giving religious instruction to the children; In former years a vote of thanks had been accorded that gentleman, but this year the children went further, and along with the vote of thanks asked him to accept a slight memento of their, appreciation of his work. This consisted of five volumes of Ruskin's works. In accepting this present Mr Roseveare saitl.he thanked them very heartily forj.tlie gift, which lie would value very much. His work ■at the school was a pleasant one on account of the attendance and attention of the children, and he was glad tliat his work was appreciated. Mr Stringer then proposed a liearty vote, of thanks to the teachers for the entertainment that evening. This was carried by acclamation, and after a vote of thanks had been accorded Mrs Mitchell, the children, with their parents, adjourned to the tea tables, wjiere a liberal supply had been provided for all, and to which ample justice. was done.
