CHRISTCHURCH-SUMNER CANAL.

I FURTHER INFORMATION SOUGHT. | (Per PiiEss Association.) Christchurch, November 1. At to-day's meeting of the Lyttelton Harbor Board Mr A. Ivaye gave notice to move —"That as the general public is not satisfied with either the "majority" or "minority" report on the canal question, and considering the expenses already incurred, and the importance of the • question as affecting the future prosperity of Canterbury, a special committee be set up to go thoroughly into the whole matter, and that in order to have the various points fully considered in as impartial a manner as possible, the following gentlemen be invited to meet with the Committee of the Board to be hereafter set up —viz.: The Hon. E. Mitclielson .(Auckland), Messrs W. Ferguson (Wellington), and J. E. Watson (Invercargilf), together with a competent accountant to be hereafter selected, and that this committe_e be at liberty to take into consideration all and every matter affecting the question of the canal from its seaward, landward, and financial aspects, and to call for all and every kind of evidence it may desire." The'matter will come up for consideration at next meeting, on December 1.
