PRESBYTERIAN GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, October 31. The Presbyterian Assembly 011 Saturday dealt with a large amount of detail work. ~ The question of the amalgamation ot the Northern an!d Southern Church Extension Funds was referred to a committee, consisting of the Northern and Southern Committees for consultation. 111 connection with the fire insurance fund, ,a. suggestion was made that offers of guarantees should be received at once from members of the Assembly. This was done, and it was announced that £5400 had been guaranteed. Regarding the Women's Training Institute, the committee was given power to join with the Dunedin 1 resbyterj in building a girls' hostel it they approved of one building and one management. . The report on general statistics showed that tlie people's contribution had increased by over £IO,OOO. Ihe i debt on property amounted to £69,00..), an increase .of £6OOO. Ihe attendance was 72,345; an increase of 1094. In the afternoon members, thenwives, and lady friends were ed at a-garden party at Mrs Deans , Riccarton. ■ . The visiting laymen attending tlie Assembly were entertained at a supper 011 Saturday night, by the Christchurch Presbyterian Church Association. Ihe Moderator of the Assembly presided. The question of home missions was discussed, and it was decided to form a New Zealand Presbyterian Missionary League, with the object of assisting home missions, the idea being that fully ten- thousand members can be seciired, yielding contributions of £IOOO towards "the objects of the League. Officers were appointed, and the executive of the Christchurch Presbyterian Association were asked to draw up a constitution and rules.
