MAORI TROUBLE AT 'FRISCO.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, September 2. The Evening Post's correspondent at San Francisco reports that seventeen Maoris of the haka troop for the New York Hippodrome were detained at San Francisco, said to be suffering from trachoma, a slight form of eye disease. Medical advice called by representatives of the Maoris, ship, and Hippodrome management was to the effect that the Maoris were free from the disease. A deadlock ensued, the landing of the Maori suspects being refused. When the mail left an independent medical man was to be called in to diag- I -nose.
