A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

The Committee meeting of the North Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held this afternoon, when there were present: Messrs H. S. Oi;bell (Chairman), Meek, Dawson, Sutherland, Andersou, Bews, W. Gardiner, senr, Macpherson, Brownlee, Dougias, Hedley, Blytli, and H. F. Gibson (acting secretary). The minutes of the last meeting were confirmed.

The correspondence included the following letters: — From the Auckland A. and P. Association asking for particulars of action arising from accident on showground a Few years ago. —The Secretary was instructed to reply. From Mr J. Buckley, apologising for absence, also apology from Mr G. Livingstone. In his letter Mr Livingstone suggested a special class for amateur in chip and relief carving, and offered one guinea as special prize therefor. —It was decided to accept the offer, and to make a special prize for boys and girls who are not tradesmen and who have not taken prizes in the competition. From J. W. Mackisack, Hon. Sec. Oamaru Hockey Club, requesting permission to make a small charge for admittance to Showground on the occasion of any matches played against visiting teams. —The request was agreed to. From M'Malion, M'Malion's Circus. applying for space and rights on the grounds at show. From Thos. Fox (N.S.W.) asking for space on ground at show. —Bo.th offers were declined in accordance with standing rule against side-sliows.

From C. W. Cooke, Secretary of Chamber of Commerce (19th August), enclosing letter from Farmers' Union re Winter Show, and hoping that the A. and P. Asscciation would now see their way to take the matter up. The letter from the Oamaru Farmers' Union (2nd August) stated__Jhat the Union was in sympathy with the proposal, and considered it .1 good thing to hold in Oamaru, as other towns of less population had very successful winter shows; also advising that the following resolution had been carried: "111 the event of tho North Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association not seeing their way to carry, out' the proposed winter show in. Oamaru, this Union would suggest that a separate committee be appointed to carry out the same." There was also a further letter from the (Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce enclosing the following resolution carried at a meeting of the Committee of tho Chamber and members of the Employers' Association: "That the matter be remitted to the North Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association for consideration, at same time stating that tlie Etnplo.yers' Association and Chamber of .Commerce would assist and send deputation to discuss the question if invited to do so." Tlie Chairman said that the matter had been thrashed out, and he did not think it could be reopened. ' In reply to Mr Gardiner, .the Chairman said that the A. and P.
