Received August 31. at 10.25 a.m. Melbourne, August 30. Mr Deakin, in reply to criticisms, declares that tjie new squadron will be thoroughlv Australian in character. Mr Deakin will introduce a Bill to amend the financial' relations between the Commonwealth and the States this week. The Victorian estate of the late Joe Thompson, turf agent, is valued at £42,608 and the English estate at £23,450. Everything is bequeathed to the widow and children.
