PALMERSTON & WAIHEMO A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

(From Out Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Palmerston and "Waihemo Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held in the. Countv Offices on Saturday last, Mill O'Neill. President, occupying the chair There was a fair attendance of members. The Secretary, Mr. "W. MacGrc"or. read the report, and printed copies of the balance-sheet were handed round and explained by the Treasurer, Mr W. B. Galloway. In moving the adoption of the report and balancesheet, the President congratulated members on having had such a prosperous vear. With a credit balance ot £62 los 4d they were now in a position to carrv out some much-needed improvements to the showground, and could put the fences and sheep-yards in thorough repair. The following were the office-bearers elected for the ensuing year:—President. Mr J). J. Ross; Vice-president, Mr Roderick Mackenzie; Secretary, Mr Wm. MacGregor (re-elected); Treasurer. Mr W. B. Galloway (re-elected;; Field' Steward, Mr Souter; Auditor, Mr Crisp; Committee, Messrs J. Chapman, A. Fleming, A. Eraser, A. Gillies, D. Gufhe, E. Lefevre, J. Ormsby, T. Hcndall, R. Riddle, J. Sloan, T. Stenhouse (all re-elected), and W. Lory, H. O'Neill, and W. Morrison. Mr W. Fielder, who has left the district, wrote resigning the position of Auditor. A motion was passed thanking him for his services to the Society, and expressing their regret at his departure from the district. In recognition of his long and valuable services, Mr T. Muir was elected a life member. The Secretary and Treasurer were thanked for their past services, and a bonus of ten guineas was voted to each of these officers. Mr O'Neill suggested that some' arrangements should be made for having the dairy produce exhibited on the showgiou'nd. Owing .to its distance from the ground, very few people went to the Courthouse to inspect the exhibits. After discussion, it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Committee. Tho first meeting of the new committee was fixed for September 11th, at

2 p.m. The Annual Report is as follows: — "The twenty-eighth annual show was held on Friday, December 4th, and was in all respects as successful as its predecessors, except as regards entries which showed » slight falling off. The gates realised £52 17s, Members' subscriptions, £67 Bs, members' entry fees £l6 8s 6d, non-members' entry fees £l3 6s. The sum of £IOO 5s was paid out in prize-money in addition to goods of considerable value.

"The most important work done during the year was the erection of six pens for fat stock, this supplying a long felt want. A ticket office has also been erected at the gate.

"This year the Committe had advertisements inserted in the programmes and thanks to the business people of Dunedin and Palmerston the sum of £lO 15s was obtained in this way.

"The annual Horse Parade was held on October sth, and proved a great success, ten stallions being on parade. "The Committee regrets that another old and respected member of the Society in the pez-son of Mr Donald M'Lcod, has passed away during the year. Mr M'Leod took an active and intelligent interest in the affairs of the Society. He was a member of the Committee for several years and was elected a life-member in 1906. "In conclusion the Committe desires to thank Mr Hutchison, S.M., for the use of the~C'ourthouse , the judges for , the excellent work performed by them, the public for their attendance, the exhibitors for their support, the citizens of Palfnerstou and Dunedin for their generous contributions to the ' funds, and the Press for the publicity given to the meetings." •
