SOUTH ISLAND SHIELD COMPETITION. This morning the shooting team of the North School Cadets fired their annual competition for the shield presented by the Government to be shot for by the school cadets of the South Island, a similar tropy also being available for the cadets of the North Island schools. The North School Cadets are the present holders of the South Island shield, having won it last year with a total score of 705, or an average individual score of 70.5. The boys were fortunate in getting good shooting conditions at the beach range this morning, although a breeze which sprang up latterly was responsible for reducing the average. Tliis year's score fell short of the winning score of last year by eight points, the total being 697 as against 705. Cadet Keith's score of 82 is distinctly meritorious, and the 76 each of Cadets Latimer, Allan, and Archibald are also worthy of special mention. The conditions were seven shots with optional sighters at 100 yds (standing), 150 yds (kneeling), aind 200vds (lying). The possible wa6 840. Following are the scores:—
