fßv Ei.F.r" , RTc Telegraph.—CovYßionT.] (Per Press Association.) Received November 25, at 1.7 a.m. Sydney, November 24. The summarised Press reoorts of Mr Jackson's speech at the Makura luncheon conveyed a wrong impression as to the relations between the company and the Federal Government. The speech exDressed the opinion that the position of the Vancouver service was not the most satisfactory owing to the absence of reciprocal trade between Canada and Australia. As a matter of fact, the relations of the company and the Commonwealth had always been friendly anrl cordial, while in the matter of negotiation with Canada the Federal Government, it i« understood, is doing its utmost to arrange for a satisfactory contract. A large fire started this evening, and is still burning, in Elliott's chemical bond at Balmain. An explosion of chemicals blew the roof off the building and completely destroyed it. The damage is £ISOO.
