WELLINGTON". November 20. An inijuiry was held to-day into the death of Thomas Wallace, whose body was found in the harbor at. Thorndon. There was no evidence to show how the deceased got into the water, and the Coroner (Dr IX'Aithur, S.M.) gave a verdict of "Found drowned."

About twenty members of the Wellington Provincial Industrial Association waited on the Hon. W. Hall-Jones to-day and presented him with a gold model of a locomotive in recognition of Mr HallJones' services to the Dominion as Minister of Railways, particularly in connection with the completion of the North Island main trunk line. Members of the deputation noted witn pleasure that in the applications for tenders for Government contracts New Zealand manufacturers were specified as far as possible. A tramway conductor named William Levers, a married man, aged 28 years, was caught- between two ears at the Newtown sheds this afternoon, and had his right leg so severely crushed that ithad to be amputated at the thigh. The executive of the National Dairy Association has passed a resolution protesting against the registration fees pro posed to be charged under the dairy regulations, and asks that the maximum fee should be 5s for over 20 cows, nor more than 2s 6d for under 20 cows; and further asks that provision should be made for a board of appeal consisting of one person .nominated by the Chief Inspector of Stock and one person nominated by dairymen and that any dairyman should have the right to appeal to such arbitrators on any matter arising out of the regulations. The executive, also passed a resolution expressing their high appreciation of Mr Gilruth's services, and their sincere regret at his departure, with a hope that, he will find free scope i:n his new office for the ''undoubted ability displayed by him ;is chief of the. veterinary division."

At the Supreme Court to-day the jury awarded £IOOO damages to the plaintiff in the breach of promise ease of Louie Morton v. George Walter Basset, of Oxford, sheep farmer. TIMARU. November 23. Mrs Barklie, wife of the Rev. J. K. Barklie. died at Geraldinc last evening of injuries received by being thrown out of a gig on Saturday afternoon. TAURANGA. November 23. In a poll for a loan of £12,000 for a water supply to-day the proposal was carried by an overwhelming majority. NAPIER. November 20. During the proceedings of the Anglican Synod to-day the Bishop of Waiapu intimated that it was his intention to forward Iris resignation to the Primate as sewn as the other bishops returned from England. Dr Williams had previously indicated that he would shortly resign on account of his age. so that a successor could be appointed more physically able to cone with the work of the diocese.

David Cochrane, secretary of the Frozen Meat Company, was charged on the information of Watson Bros., farmers, wit. 1 , committing perjury in evidence given in a civil action in. the Supreme Court by swearing that unless they had instructions to the contrary it was the custom of the Company to ship on the first vessel without consultation with the shipper. The facts are that Watson Bros.' ■sheep were shipped by the Turakina, on which a fire occurred. There was no insurance, and Watson Bros, brought a.n unsuccessful action in the Supreme Court and Appeal Court- against the Company. The present proceedings are the sequel Mi' W. C. M'Gregor, of Dunedin, prosecutes and Mr Solomon defends.
