Oamaru Borough Council.

A meeting of the above was held in the Town Hal! last night. His Worship the Mayor and 1 Councillors Frith, Snaddon. Mitchell, Keys, Clarke, Mahan, Brown, M"Adam, and Grave- were present. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed, outward correspondence read' and approved, and inward dealt with as follows: . The Secretary of the Garrison Hand wrote that the operations of the Factorv Act preventedl half of the members of Ihe band, from attending the Timaru nictiie. in the Oamaru gardens on the 30th. and. as a. consequence, the band regretted to have to refuse their services' on that date.—Received. Mr W. Gardiner, jun., wrote agreeing, with regard to the water tiiipply, to the Council's terms for a free discharge of a one-inch pipe- at £lO per atrium, conditionally that in the event of Mr Henslcv's agents being able to prove that a free supply should, he granted for their property, of which be was the lessee, the Council take into consideration the advisability of making a reduction pro rata.—Received.

The Secretary of the Oamaru Hospital Trustees - wrote that the Trustor* could not see their way to giant a road through their Maercwhcmin reserve without an actual inspection of the locality. However, the Trustees" solicitor had I 'informed them that they have no power to convey the proposed road line, and thov suggested' that the road on Stringer's 'southern boundary be not close:!', as the Council .might find it possible to connect with that road through their own proportv. The Mayor said that Mr Hod Icy 'had stated to the clerk th.it such a' road through Stringer's would lie too steep to be practicable.

Councillor Grave suggested that when the Hospital Trustees visited the ground some, of the Council might attend and he moved 1 that the Chairman of the Waterworks Committee and' the IChgineer visit the ground in conjunction with the Hospital Trustees. Councillor Grave's motion was carried. The Secretary of the North Otago Benevolent. Society wrote requesting the Borough Council to elect three members to represent the Council on the Society for the year 1903-19C9.—The present representative,;, Messrs J. G. Finch. 1). H. Jennings, and Win. Jardine. were re-ap-poiiitcd and thanked for their services during the past year. On the motion of Councillor Frith. seconded 1 bv Councillor Brown, Mr David Ximmo, the Borough Engineer, was annointcd Inspector of Buildings under section 318 of the Cbrparations Act of 1900. The Works and Reserves Committee reported (1) that after hearing the Engineers report on Mrs .Sparks' stable it could not accede to the request to have the stable repaired. The following scale of charges for use of the baths for the season to the end 50th April, 1908, viz. : .Men, Is cVI; ladies, 2s 6d ; youths and girls under 18. 2s : under 14 years, Is 6<l ; single bath : Adults, 3d : youths and girls under 18, 2d ; children under 14 years, Id: use of towel. Id: trunks, Id. The report was adopted with the exception that the age of 18 was in each case reduced to 17.

The Gas Committee reported recommending (1) regarding Mr Cross's application for gas service, that he be informed that if he undertakes to pay the cost of putting in the service the Council would supply the gas at town prices, the work to l>e done subject to the Harbor Board's approval.

The Works and Reserves Committee xe--portod recommending that Messrs J. Ogilvie and Son's tender for sewer in block 95 be accepted at £39o.—Report adopted.

The Fin alloc Committee reported recommending, that accounts amounting to £261 19s be passed for payment and further recommended that the gas manager be. instructed to use his judgment with regard to street lighting on dark and other nights : increase in expenditure for street lighting not considered necessary at present. —Report adopted. The Waterworks: Committee reported recommended (1) that Mr Gardiner be granted: a- free discharge of a one-inch pipe from the water race at Awamoko for £lO per annum. (2) That the Trustees, Executors, and Agency Company, Ltd. (Duncdin) be informed that the Council has no record of any agreement with the Rev. H. G. Hensley as to the supply of water to his sections at Awamoko. (3) Resolved that a charge of £5 per annum he h'xexl for each of the Railway Department's houses at Waiareka for domestic water supplies, and also to ask the Department what was the nature of the supply required for the Waiareka station.—Adopted.
