Mail Office, Monday afternoon. Ihe holiday feeling has not yet. worn completely orf, and the markets'in every' commodity are as Hat its they well could Lc. Nothing whatever was done during the past- week in wheat, not onLy because of the holidays but because there is no demand just now. During the forthcoming week the demand is expected to revive, and sales will probably eventuate. A few lines of new cats have been purchased for forward delivery, some of them being already cut, but it would be as yet impracticable to hazard the opening price for oats. There arc numbers of fanners, who, having purchased oats when feed was scarce, found them left on their hands whenithe grass cime awa-y so luxuriously, and many of there are coming back on the market again thus locating considerable stocks which had not been accounted for. The improvement in the Australian market seems lo signify that new wheat will open, i.'ither betteT- than was anticipated, and there are good prospects that the 4s standaril will' be maintained. In the absence of ?.i!os for so long a period it would be im[io sible to quote accurate prices.
