Six mines are now idle. It is believed the owners intend, if the strike is not ended to-night, that they will not go before the special court arranged by the Premier, and which meets on Monday. Brisbane, January 3. Mr Philp has issued, a manifesto to the electors stating that the Government intend, without delay, to pass a measure to foster oversea transport by subsidising a line of steamers with sufficient refrigerating space, to trade between Queensland and Britain and the East, via Torres Strait. It is intended to reduce the number of members of the Assembly, and place the Council on an elective basis, establish wages boards, increase the old-age pension to 10s weekly, and take a referendum on religious instruction in schools.
