The Cable Station.
By Telegraph. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, October 8. There is reason to 'believe that a proposal is on foot to tramsfex -the Government telegraph station from Waka-puaka, the terminus of the cable, to Nelson. Atthe present time the Government officers are in, the same building as the officers of the Cable Company, and messages as they arrive aTe handed direct from one to another. It is stated that a- saving in the • direction of a reduction of the I staff can be effected by arranging for the Cable Company to deliver the messages to the Telegraph Department. at Nelson. This is probably the case, but those in a position to judge suggest that such a. change wolild mean delay on all messages —press, commercial, and otherwise. Atpresent there is a direct delivery from Wakapuaka to the chief centres, and the intervention of the Nelson office would mean an extra handling of all messages.
