She was seized with, a fit ■■when max a fireplace at ■ her residence., Te Karaka, and fell into the fire. There she lay until d'aylight. A boy aged eight, tlie only other occupant of the hoiiEe, dad not obeerve anything wrong till getting up in tho morning, when he saw smoke coming from the room. He went- out and caught a horse and' rode a mile away for ■the assistance of a relative. Oii- returning he found the place full, of smoke and the woman lying terribly burned. He pillleil her out .and extinguished the fire. Medical assistance was obtained-. . The sufferer lingered till 10.30, when she died. She was coniscious almost to tho end,-and 1 gave a rational account of what- happened': She stated that she felt no pain at all. JTOKITIKA. October 9. Alexander Singer, aged 78, for 43 years a reader of the local Synagogue, died this ■morning, after a brief illness. He *^ v^ s well known and widely respected throughout the West Coast. The wife o[ George Shaw» an old. resident- of Kanieri, died last night at an advanced age. There has been an unusual number of deaths of aged peop'o during the last month or two, thinning out the Tanks of the old pioneers.
