The Rain-making Proposals
At tho County Council meeting to-day, the Chairman said that he had been communicated with by tho editor of tho Mail, who stated that he had received a number of subscriptions from people in the district to be devoted to tho purpose of rain-making by explosions, and ho would be glad to know if the Council proposed taking any action in the matter; if so, he would "hand over tho subscriptions lie had received to tho Council. Mr Wylic Baid he had noticed lottcTs in tho Mail lately stating that the previoiis exiwrknents, made many years ago, wero successful. Tho rain did not oomo until tho month following the explosions, and then in such quantities that it ruined nearly every farm in North Qtago. Mr liorrie, with reference to aliotlier statement that appeared in the M.ail, said tbat the balance of tho fund collected for rain-making some years ago bad been granted to tho Waftaki High School for the purchase of scientific apparatus. Ho merely wished to know if the Council desired to take any action in tho matter. Mr Wylio moved that no action bo taken, and this was agreed to.
