A new postal regulation lias been gazetted providing that in future stamps must be placed on the front, or address, side of a letter and upon the right-ha.-.a upper corner of that side. Stamps plated on the back of a letter will not be recognised, and the letter will be surcharged as insufficiently prepaid. At the Magistrate's Court, before Captain Wray, S.M., Richard Nealon, was charged on six informations with, selling liquor in a no-license district. A conviction was entered on the first information and alto on the second, and afterwards the prosecution was withdrawn on the others. After commenting on the amount of false swearing which was always associated with sly grog-cases, the Magistrate said that, owing to the difficulty in detecting such offences, a substantial penalty must be inflicted, and, as the accused had been once previously convicted for a similar offence, he had no option but to send him to gaol, and would sentence accused to two months' imprisonment on each conviction, the sentences to Tun concurrently. Accused's counsel said that he intended to appeal and bail was allowed of £IOO and a surety for costs.

HOKITIKA. December 8. A young man named Simon M'Leod was accidentally killed by a fall of earth at M'Leod's Terrace claim, Mikonui, yesterday afternoon.
