The Italian barque Leonardo, from Sydney to Mauritius with a general cargo, broke her anchor chain and drifted on to a. reef. She is a total wreck. Tho crew were saved. Melbourne, August 16 The Age declares that if any Protectionist joins Mr Reid the coalition will be such an act of parly perfidy as no organised body could afford to forget. No Protectionist should sully lib escutcheon by allying himself with a- man and a cause decisively rejected by the country. The Argus approves of the coalition, and says the fiscal question is definitely set aside for this Parliament at least by all but a very small section, who are raising it with the hope of embarrassing Mr Reid. Alexander Watson, of Wellington, won the first prize of £4COO, and Towhill and Company, of Thames, the second of £IOOO in Tattersa-H's No. 2 sweep on the Adelaide Grand National Hurdles. Received August 17, at 0.56 a.m. Sydney, August 16. Hill was sentenced to seven years and Bell to six years for the late Whitccliffs mail robbery. Melbourne, August 16. Mr Reid is making good progress in forming a- Cabinet, but he does not expect to complete his work before Thursdny. Mr Watson has consented to Mr Reid's suggestion to move, when tho House meets to-morrow, to adjourn till Thursday. Sir G. Turner, who will be Treasurer hi the new Ministry, states that in consequence of the forwardness of Mr Watson' 3 preparations, he will lie able to deliver his budget in three weeks.
