A short sitting of the Supreme Court was opened here tliis morning before Mr Justice Dtnniston. 'iho criminal business was very light, there being only two cases. In one case, where Thomas Quirk was charged with wilfully burning a straw stack, the jury found no bill, and in the other case Peter Gory Stanger pleaded guilty to the theft of a horEe and oQtaining money under false, pretences at Temuka, and was sentenced to four months' imprisonment, having already been in gaol one month.

■HOKOTKA. September 15. (Bridget M'Laughlan, an elderly widow, has been committed for trial for murdering the infant child of Louisa Harding.
