(»i uliobap*.} Pbb Pbiss Assooiatiox. WELLINGTON. September. 14. The Ventura, with the British mails of the 31st August, left- San Francisco on the 12th September, at 11 a.m., one hour late. Patrick Coyne, formerly of the Royal Irish Constabulary, who * arrived in the colony in June, attempted to commit suicide early this morning, and succeeded in seriously injuring his windpipe with a penknife. He is in a serious condition at the hospital. He has lately been much worried owing to inability to obtain employment. GISBORNE. September 14. Whilst the scow Whakapai was discharging timber at Tokomaru Bay, being run on the beach for the she sustained some damage by settling down on some boulders which pierced holes in her. Repairs are being effected, and it is hoped to float the vessel off on to-morrow's tide. INViEROARGILL. September J. 4. For Sunday trading. Manraret- M'Alister, of the Gladstone Hotel, was fined £1 and her license endorsed. The liquor was supplied by a servant in the absence of t!he defendant, who stated that she gave instructions not to serve anyone.
