This match was played on Saturday at Palmerston, and according to the subjoined: scores it would appear that the Oamaru boys won by 1 run—though as none of tie three different accounts supplied to us tally, it is impossibte to say which team won. OAMARU v. TIMARU. Although the weather yesterday morning was not at all suitable for the preparation of a, wicket and although up to the time of the arrival of the Timaru train rain fell almost incessantly yet cricketers' luck was in the ascendant! Lunch over at the Star rain had cleared and a start was made for the ground which proved to be in better order than expected. The Timaru team batting tirst knocked up 65, to. which -Adciiclc, who was the only man who made anything- like a prolonged stay at the wickets, contributed 21 In a style which ha* seldom been equalled on the local ground. Hewat 5 for 17. good at- any time, exhibited that skill which he always saves up for the visit of a foreign team, while Holmes' bowling average suffered for want of luck. The Oamaru team batting next Kent in Hewat and Ongley and these two stayed long enough to show that there could be only one issue to the game. Hewat's 47 was made by splendid, hard and and frequent hitting, while Ongley and Holmes made their runs much more slowly. Scores were made as follows :
