XAPIER. March 19. The death is announced of Captain Tnke, who took a prominent part in the native w:>r. He arrived in the ship Cornwall in 1851. and when the war broke out he was appointed by Sir George Grey as second in command, under Colonel W. Fraser. of the military settlers, and saw active service on the East Coast, for which he received the Xew Zealand war medal. He was also for 18 months in charge of the native prisoners at the Chathains. but was not there when they escaped. Deceased was in ids 75th year.
