PRESBYTERIAN SYNOD.

(BY TELEGRAPH.) Dune din, November 6. The Presbyterian Synod has passed a resolution placing on record the Synod s profound l sense of gratitude to Almighty God for the success which has attended the airms of Great Britain in South Africa; expressing warm admiration for the gallantry- displayed by both the Imperial and colonial soldiers throughout their arduous and perilous undertaking; tendering their deepest sympathy to the relatives of those who have fallen. The Synod recognised the victory as a new incentive to the Empire to remember its solemn responsibilities of power, and prayed that statesmen might be wisely guided in securing an equitable and permanent settlement. It trusted that as the result of the war there might spread throughout the Empire yet a deeper sense of dependence on God, and yet a more earnest desire that the greatness of our country might- be wholly baaed on righteousness and freedom and truth. The Synod resolved to petition the Queen to withhold her sanction to marriwe with the Deceased Husband's Brother Act-.
