Acting undfer instructions from the Minister of Defence, General French gave the information about the arms' and ammunition' sought by the Military Commission. The evidence showed there were four and a-half million rounds of cordite cartridges in the colony, with another two million three hundred thousand to arrive. There were 14,500 modern rifles (including 8000 magazine rifles) and' 16,000; Martinis and old type weapons, and half a million rounds of machine gun ammunition.
