Invercabgill, December 12.
The Southland A. and P. Show commenced to-day with the judging of cattle and sheep. The exhibits number about 900, the greatest increase being in implements, of which there is a very large ehow. The weather was fine, and is likely to continue bo, but, as usual on the first day, the attendance was limited to those interested in stock. The champion shorthorn bull is R. Grieves' College Lad, bred at Lincoln College. The bull was weighed, and touched 22c wb 2qrs 201b. The champion Bhorthorn cow is W. Waddell's iana. The clasa was nob a large one, and the junior section did not fill. Ayrshires made a eood show, the awards being pretty evenly distributed between J. Gait, J. Grant, R. Meek, and W. Rankin. In Herefords James Holmes took both firsts. In Polled Angus K. and A. Officer and J. Reid and Sons divided firsb and tied for the gold medal. In sheep J. B. Sutton had ib all his own way with Lincolns. Border Leicesters —Ram, champion, J. M'Crostie; do, ewe, M'Kercher ; Romney, ram, champion, J. B. Logan; Shropshire .Downs, J. Rem and Sonß took all the prizes; Cheviot, ram, champion, Helker and Audrey; do ewe, Hon, M. Holmes. Gold medals—Shorthorns, W. Waddell, Gore; Ayrahires, James Gait; Lincolns, J. B. Sutton ; Romneys, J. B. Logan.
