They are digging screening rifle pits and extending redoubts. Lord Methuen is convalescent The building of the Modder River bridge involves delay and immense labor. The Lancers near Modder, bearing a flag of truce, were fired upon. The Boers are in great strength at Aliwal North. Seven thousand retired through Weenen on Sunday. Three thousand are reinforcing Cronje from Natal. The searchlight apparatus used at Frere for signalling Ladysmith devised by Captain Scott, of the warship Terrible. The Boers have annexed Griquabour. The inhabitants are enthusiastic. Four hundred disloyal farmers are guarding the river there. The Pretoria mint is coining at the rate of LIOO,OOO monthly, from the crushings of the Bonanza, P.obinson, and Ferreira Deep mines. It has transpired that General Joubert last spring surveyed the Natal border up to the vicinity of Maritzbnrg. Received December S, at 9 40 a in. Dup.ean, December 7. The Ladysmith garrison divert the time with cricket, football, and rowiDg. The Gordon Highlanders celebrated St. Andrew's Day.
