WELLINGTON
April 16. At the inquest: on the child Douglas Rosa, who died on Friday, the poat mortem confirmed the evidence that the child had consumed whisky. It appears that the boy, who ,waa only years old, was left alone in bed when his parents rose in the morning. Subsequently he was heard moving about the house, and by some means became possessed of a bottle containing whisky, which had been left in another room. The child partook of the contents, and convulsions ensued, resulting in death. It is supposed that the boy must have consumed fenr ounces. The verdict was death from alcoholic poisoning, the result of misadventure. A child named Edward Howett, whose parents reside in Boulcott street, died to-day from barns received last night. It appears that the mother had just bathed him, and, while standing in front of the fire, his nightclothes caught fire, and the little sufferer wjs burned to such an extent that he succumbed.
DUNEDIN. April 16. A body, supposed to be that of an Assyrian, waa found in the bush on Mount Cargill, about three miles from the city. There are no marks of violence. The body was not identified. TIMARU. April 16. A man, about 50, a German itinerant umbrella mender, name unascertained, though known to many by sight, waa found dead in a ihed near Timara this morning. He had not been seen alive since Thursday evening. The medical evidence, on a post mortem, showed that death was due to inflammation of the longs, accelerated by exposure. Evidence was given showing that deceased was addicted to drink.
